ArmInfo. Robert Kocharian's lawyers said they had withdrawn their application from the Constitutional Court, but this case will be considered in one way or another by the Constitutional Court. On June 25, Taron Simonyan, a deputy from the Enlightened Armenia faction, stated this in an interview with reporters, referring to the statement of Robert Kocharian's lawyers that they had withdrawn their statement from the Constitutional Court.
As the lawyer Aram Orbelian noted, the decision was made taking into account previously approved constitutional amendments, which, according to him, are illegal. Moreover, as was noted, there are no problems with the composition of the Constitutional Court, which, according to the approved amendments, should be changed. In explaining the decision, Orbelian said it was unacceptable that in the context of constitutional amendments, some of the deputies began to mention the Kocharian case. Based on this, based on discussions with the ex-president himself, it was decided to withdraw the statement from the Constitutional Court.
<The Constitutional Court called the day when the Kocharian case will be examined on the basis of a statement by the defense and the court. These two statements were combined into one production. As you recall, we have stated that since this case will be examined by the Constitutional Court on July 7. Our faction stated that in order not to connect the case related to the violation of the Constitution with political processes, we decided that we would start to participate in the right process after the Constitutional Court's decision on the case of Robert Kocharian is made>, Simonyan emphasized.
The deputy added that the statement of Robert Kocharian's lawyers that they had withdrawn the statement is quite normal, but the case will be examined in one way or another by the Constitutional Court. <If the Constitutional Court declares that it will not consider this case, then our agreement remains valid. No one intends to deviate from his words. We believe that contesting anti-constitutional processes is a purely legal process and should not be associated with political processes. The fact that the lawyers withdrew the application does not mean that it will not be considered on June 7, "he concluded.
It should be noted that on June 24, the Enlightened Armenia faction stated at the press conference that it would join the initiative of its colleagues from Prosperous Armenia in order to collect signatures to appeal to the Constitutional Court in order to recognize the unconstitutionality of the adopted law on the Constitutional Court, after that how the Constitutional Court will decide on the case of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian.
Recall that on June 22, the Armenian parliament in the second and final reading adopted the draft amendments to the Armenian Constitution through the constitutional law. According to the document, the powers of the judges of the Constitutional Court, who have been in office for more than 12 years, must be terminated. After the vacant posts of judges are taken, the election of a new head of the Constitutional Court will take place. The President of Armenia signed the law.
