ArmInfo. Highways towards the borders with Turkey will be modernized. The relevant decision was adopted at a government meeting on June 25.
According to the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, the program provides for the overhaul of sections of the Turkish-Markara-Vanadzor- Tashir-Georgian border highway. 1.732 billion drams will be allocated from the state budget to solve this goal. In addition, as the Minister noted, another 434 million drams will be allocated for the restoration of road sections in the direction of Talin-Karakert-border of Turkey.
The Minister stated that the implemented program fits into the country's capital expenditure program for 2020. There were certain problems associated with the refusal of the company "Auto Repair" to carry out technical control over the construction work, but after involving a new participant in the project, this issue will be completely resolved. Suren Papikyan noted that within the framework of the program of capital repairs and road construction for the current year, an amount of 22 billion drams has been approved. Taking into account today's decisions of the cabinet, it will increase to 31 billion drams.
To note, however, that Turkey, supporting Azerbaijan on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, continues to block the borders of Armenia, which have not been idle since 1993.
Earlier, ArmInfo, citing Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, reported that in 2020, despite the epidemic of coronavirus, 500 km of roads of interstate and republican significance will be repaired and built. He noted that on May 14, the government decided to allocate 17.4 billion drams for the repair of 185.33 km of roads and two transport facilities. At the same time, according to him, the work will affect 97.26 km of interstate roads, 55.57 km of republican, 32.5 km of regional significance. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that tenders had already been completed for the construction of a number of roads, in particular, for the repair of 241 km, and the average repair of 80 km. Work is also underway on the construction of the M6 highway (in the direction of Georgia). It is planned to complete tenders for the construction of about 50 km of roads by the end of the year.
