ArmInfo. In connection with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Armenia, the conditions for accepting applicants to higher educational institutions in the country will slightly change. The RA National Assembly at an extraordinary meeting on June 24 in the first reading amended the Law "On Education".
According to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Araik Harutyunyan, the current regulations stipulate that the list of specialties and entrance exams in higher education institutions is approved by the government until December 1 of each year. Moreover, according to the law, it is forbidden to make changes and additions to the already approved list.
However, in connection with the state of emergency declared in the Republic of Armenia on the prevention of a new coronavirus, the need to change the procedure for admission to higher education. Admission to universities under the new procedure approved by the Government will be based on the results of one entrance exam, online acceptance of applications, a new version of filling out applications. Depending on the specifics of the specialty, the exam required for passing was chosen instead of the previous 2 or 3 exams. In accordance with the new admission conditions, there was also a need to change the list of already established specialties and entrance exams. The bill will allow the government to make changes and additions to the list of specialties and entrance examinations in higher educational institutions in modern conditions
