ArmInfo. The RA Ministry of Health urged not to use dexamethasone in the treatment of coronavirus without a doctor's instructions.
A ministry statement said: "In recent days, media have touched on preliminary results of clinical trials conducted in the UK, according to which dexamethasone treatment can save the lives of seriously ill patients with COVID-19. Then the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia received a number of reports that citizens were buying this medicine without a doctor's prescription. Meanwhile, on the basis of clinical symptoms, the appropriateness of the use of the drug and the dosage are determined by the attending physician, based on the severity of the disease, contraindications and patient response to the drug. We remind you that drugs containing dexamethasone are registered as prescription drugs, moreover, they have an inhibitory effect on the immune system, as a result of which latent infections can become more active, and existing infections can worsen. In addition, as a result of the use of drugs, serious side effects appear that require regular medical monitoring.
The Ministry of Health urges not to self-medicate and follow the doctor's instructions during treatment>. In total, 19157 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the republic, 8266 people recovered, 319 died. Currently, 10462 patients are receiving actual treatment.
