ArmInfo. In recent days, the number of severe patients with COVID- 19 in Armenia remains is nearly 500, which is a high indicator. This was announced on June 12 in an interview with reporters by the head of the RA Ministry of Health Arsen Torosyan.
Speaking about the current situation with coronavirus, the Minister said that reaching the mark of 15 thousand cases was forecasted by June 9, but in fact it was recorded on June 12. Torosyan noted that if 100% of the citizens wear masks (three-layer and waterproof), as required by the Commandant's Office, a reduction in the incidence of coronavirus can be recorded in the republic within 7 days.
Torosyan drew attention to the fact that in recent days the number of severe patients with COVID-19 remains about 500, which is a high indicator. According to the latest data, the total number of severe and extremely severe coronavirus patients is 524. According to him, in Armenia, mortality among patients with COVID-19 in extremely serious condition is 70%, and among those connected to the ventilator, 90%. To date, the bed fund allocated for the fight against coronavirus is sufficient, and this also applies to resuscitation departments.
The Minister informed that on June 13, 10 doctors will arrive from France by special flight to fight against coronavirus. The Lithuanian government also promised to assist Armenia by sending its specialists. In all likelihood, they will be in the republic next week. In addition, about 50 doctors from Russia, who may work in Armenia for several weeks, expressed their desire to take part in the fight against COVID-19. Torosyan also informed that negotiations are underway with the WHO European Office regarding the arrival of medical teams in Armenia working in emergency situations. In all likelihood, these will be Polish or Israeli medical personnel who have extensive experience in this field.
As for the spread rumors that the Ministry of Health refused to involve the University Clinic No. 1 and the Nairi Medical Center in the fight against COVID-19, Torosyan emphasized that this decision was made initially based on the interests of the healthcare system, since the country's medical institutions should provide medical care in other directions as well. Given that in the case of the university clinic we are talking about only ten beds, the minister called the hype raised in some media as an attempt to make a mountain out of a molehill. In total, 15,281 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the republic, 5639 people recovered, 258 died. Currently, 9298 patients are receiving actual treatment.
