ArmInfo. Head of the "My Step" faction Lilit Makunts said that she did not consider the process associated with the implementation of the vetting system in the country to have failed. On May 12 Makunts said in an interview with reporters.
The MP said that she agreed with the point of view that this process should be carried out faster. <We do not adhere to the point of view that all our actions are ideal. However, we are trying to do our best to fully implement the reforms in the judicial system. We appreciate the strategy that the Ministry of Justice has developed positively, and we should show consistency in our steps and bring what we have started to a logical end, "she said.
Makunts also added that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan discussed the issue of vetting yesterday. "They very thoroughly touched upon all the existing problems, the contradictions between the vetting and the Constitution, and the possible solution to these problems," the MP emphasized.
When asked if the faction was going to make amendments to the Constitution that would help to implement the vetting, the head of the "My Step" faction stated: <A working group has been set up that will develop proposals for amending the Constitution. It includes everything - professionals, representatives of civil society, the opposition and the government. I am sure that if during the discussions the parties reach consensus that some parts of the Constitution need to be amended, and such changes are consistent with the law of the country, an appropriate decision will be made>, Makunts concluded.
It should be noted that yesterday Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan discussed the implementation system of the vetting of judges.
Badasyan stated that three tools have been introduced to "cleanse" the judicial system. First, an analysis of the declaration of the judges is proposed. And secondly, a commission assessing the activities of judges will play its role. This commission will consist of 5 members who should be elected by the general meeting of judges. 3 of them will be judges, 2 - representatives of civil society. The commission will also check the terms of consideration of cases, the validity of judges' decisions, and the maintenance of ethical standards.
