ArmInfo. In Armenia, there is a need to reform the Electoral Code of the country. The Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan stated this at a meeting of the Committee on State Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on May 4, presenting the results of the Committee's activities in 2018-2019.
According to Tigran Mukuchyan, in order to streamline the issue with the voter lists, it is necessary to make adjustments to the methodology for compiling the lists, and for this it is important to amend the current Electoral Code. At present, the head of the CEC continued, all citizens of the country who have reached 18 years of age have the right to vote. But the legislation does not regulate issues related to the prolonged absence of citizens from the republic, and even more so, with their death. Often there are situations in which a citizen, is abroad or has passed away but the authorities did not possess this information. In order to change the established tradition of compiling voter lists, it is necessary to revise the methodology and make appropriate changes to the EC.
Tigran Mukuchyan also noted that in 2,000 polling stations in Armenia, 1,500 cameras were installed to monitor the election process in each particular polling station online. Thus, 92% of all polling stations are covered. The head of the Central Election Commission noted that it is impossible to provide all the polls with cameras because of their remoteness. But this problem can be solved by filming, which can be carried out by proxies and representatives of observer missions. In total, about 19 thousand people participate in the election process, of which 14 thousand take part in the work of election commissions, and 4 thousand serve cameras.
