ArmInfo. The Special Investigation Service (SIS) investigates not only crimes related to its direct duties, but also a number of other crimes in current situation in Armenia. Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan said during a meeting of the Committee on State and Legal Affairs, presenting the government's initiative to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure.
She noted that the SIS should investigate crimes related to the abuse of powers of officials. <However, today the SIS also receives cases of car accidents and other crimes not related to abuse of authority. This does not come from the interests of this body, as there is an overload of employees, while the SIS has a special mission>, the deputy minister noted.
Galyan noted that according to the legislative initiative, it is proposed to clearly identify the circle of officials whose cases will be referred to the SIS. <In particular, this means the president, the prime minister and other senior officials. We also propose amending the clause according to which the Prosecutor General may withdraw the case from the production of one of the law enforcement bodies and forward it to the SIS. From now on, the Prosecutor General will have such an opportunity only if the objectivity of the investigation is in jeopardy>, the deputy minister emphasized.
