ArmInfo. As we know, on March 31, presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Artsakh, by which the NKR people once again secured their right to live freely. Shirak Torosyan, MP from the "My Step" faction, announced this in parliament.
He emphasized that the second round of presidential elections in Artsakh is taking place today. "This is an indicator that citizens of Artsakh have the opportunity to independently choose the president in their country and live in safety," the MP emphasized. Torosyan noted that the assessments of international observers in connection with the elections were very positive, including the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. <In particular, the co-chairs noted that, despite the fact that they do not recognize the results of these elections, due to the further status of the NKR, but the co-chairs recognize the role of the people in Artsakh in the matter of choosing their future. Many countries also praised the election. However, the position of Georgia was very sharp, which stated that it does not recognize the results of the elections in Artsakh and supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan>, the deputy emphasized.
He stated that such a position appeared in Georgia after the war in 2008. <Azerbaijan also expresses a similar position on the elections in Abkhazia. However, after the velvet revolution, we entered a new level of relations with Georgia. After all, before, Armenia and Georgia often voted against each other at various international venues. Moreover, Armenia found the strength and expressed a very restrained position on the elections in Abkhazia. I hope that our Georgian colleagues will find the strength and be very restrained in this matter>, the MP concluded. It should be noted that on April 14, the second round of the presidential election is being held in Artsakh. Earlier on March 31, presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Artsakh. Then none of the presidential candidates overcame the necessary threshold, as a result of which a second round was appointed. Former Prime Minister of the NKR, Arayik Harutyunyan, who had 49.26% of votes in the first round and Foreign Minister Masis Mayilyan 26.4% are running for the president's place.
