ArmInfo. As a result of incessant lies, violence, and blatant inaction, the Armenian government's political arsenal is virtually exhausted.
The Heritage Party made this statement following a brawl between members of the Armenian parliament on October 29. In this regard, the political party recalled the famous aphorism of the ancient Roman satirist Decimus Junius Juvenal, "Bread and Circuses" (Latin: panem et circenses), noting that it has attracted the attention of a wide variety of revolutionaries throughout history.
"The group clinging to power in our country is no exception in this regard. The looming social crisis, the threat of which for our country is becoming increasingly apparent with each passing day, as well as the expected further acts of gradual surrender of the Motherland to the dictates of Azerbaijan's unilateral demands, require renewed efforts from the Armenian authorities. As a result of incessant lies, violence, and blatant inaction, the Armenian government's political arsenal has been virtually exhausted, and the well-known aphorism of revolutionaries is taking on new connotations – in the form of organized circus-like brawls in the country's highest legislative body," the political party stated.
In conclusion, the Heritage Party called on the Armenian people and international partners to pay attention to the behavior of the two vice speakers of the National Assembly of Armenia during the incident in parliament, the provocative inaction of the speaker of parliament, and the behavior of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
As a reminder, on October 29, after Taron Chakhoyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract faction, made offensive statements about the family of Narek Karapetyan, head of the Strong Armenia faction, a verbal altercation erupted in the Armenian parliament. This altercation first escalated into a brawl between members of parliament, and then into a fight. As the situation escalated, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ruben Rubinyan did not call a recess, but merely called on members of parliament to decide whether they would continue the brawl or return to their seats. However, tensions not only did not subside, but actually escalated further. The Speaker of Parliament was forced to call in state security officers to calm the protesters. The conflict continued in the parliament hallway. Law enforcement officers were forced to form a wall between the ruling and opposition deputies to calm them down. The brawl resulted in damage to state property in the parliament hall.
