ArmInfo. Construction of a traffic interchange connecting a section of the M-2 highway from the capital's Noragavit district toward Artashat will begin on October 5. This work is being carried out as part of the North-South transport corridor, the Yerevan Municipality press service reported.

According to the source, traffic at the interchange will be routed along a temporary road during the work. When approaching the work zone, the speed limit will gradually be reduced to 30 km/h. Warning and direction signs will be installed, and the construction sites will be fenced and illuminated. "During the temporary closure of the highway, please use alternate detours, which will be marked with temporary direction signs." "Be careful, obey the speed limit, and follow road signs," the city municipality said in a statement.

The project aims to relieve one of the busiest sections of the Armenian capital's road network and connect key highways. The junction connects the Artashat Highway (M2 Interstate Highway), the H-8 Highway, and 1st Noragavit Street. The project will organize traffic at different levels. A 272-meter-long main overpass is being built, along with two overpasses of 28 and 22 meters. The total cost of the project is approximately 1.5 billion drams, and the standard implementation period is 16 months.

The construction of the overpass will also completely separate the flows of transit traffic and cars entering and leaving Yerevan. This will minimize chronic traffic congestion on the Artashat highway and improve traffic safety at the capital's southern gateway.

The North-South Highway is designed to connect Armenia's southern and northern borders (from the Iranian to the Georgian border), shortening travel distances and integrating with international transport networks.
