ArmInfo. Today is not the day to evaluate the conduct of the Armenian authorities, as stated by Serzh Sargsyan, the third president of the Republic of Armenia and leader of the Republican Party, to journalists after voting. He was commenting on new detentions and arrests, including among those of RPA representatives.
According to the former president, he cast his ballot at the polling station to ensure the victory of an Armenia capable of preserving the inviolability of its borders and guaranteeing the security, rights, and dignity of its citizens. "I voted for an Armenia where lies, falsifications, and slander will be condemned, and active political engagement will be welcomed. I voted for a country where the authorities will not accuse their political opponents using the notorious formula of 'money laundering,'" Serzh Sargsyan said, referring primarily to RPA Vice President Armen Ashotyan.
The third president noted that throughout his entire life, he had never witnessed such unprecedented government interference in an election campaign. He emphasized that he had participated in ten such elections but had never seen this level of interference in any of them.
Sargsyan specifically pointed out what he termed an unprecedented misuse of state administrative resources and funds. The ex-president also criticized the passive stance of European observers, claiming they had turned a blind eye to these infractions.
"Their leaders have specific objectives and have put considerable effort into achieving them—something they do not even hide at the highest levels," the former president said, adding, however, that if the opposition wins, no one will be able to take away their votes.
