The authorities in Armenia weigh two options of the power rate: either to raise it by 7 drams or leave unchanged and find other sources to compensate for losses of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC, a local newspaper "Zhoghovurd" writes citing reliable sources.
According to the paper, if the second option is chosen, the authorities will have to hold down the rate of the electric power generated by such big utilities as the Nuclear Power Plant, High-Voltage Power Networks. Hrazdan HPP, 5th power unit of Hrazdan HPP, Yerevan HPP, Sevan-Hrazdan Cascade of HPP. Reportedly, these utilities have already applied to the public service watchdog for revision of their energy rates.
The paper writes the NPP's application has not been satisfied. Furthermore, a political decision was adopted and the rate of the electric power generated by the NPP will not be raised. Quite the contrary, it will be reduced by 10%. A similar decision may be adopted also concerning the applications of other utilities.
The authorities try to minimize ENA's losses by reducing the rates of the power the company purchases for distribution, and not the power rate for consumers.
On May 8, Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC submitted an official application to the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of Armenia to raise the electric power tariffs. ENA (subsidiary of Inter RAO) suggests increasing the daytime tariff to 58.93 AMD versus the current 41.85 AMD, and the nighttime tariff - to 48.93 AMD versus the current 31.85 AMD.
