On May 13 Yerevan-Vanadzor railway has been inspected during weekly conducted days of safety. The inspection is carried out under the supervision of deputy Director General of "South Caucasus Railway" CJSC Sergey Valko.
During the inspection journalists familiarized themselves with the observance of railway standards. At the end of the railway - in Vanadzor the commissioners met with vice governor of Lori region Arsen Darbinyan and representatives of the local government authorities. They agreed on extending the cooperation and holding school-seminars on observance of railway standards
According to S. Valko, these inspections are particularly aimed at improving railway traffic safety, meeting with heads of local administrations for improving joint activities on prevention of unsanctioned passages, as well as cattle grazing. According to him, these violations are threat to citizens' lives and health and are jeopardizing for railway traffic. In 2013-2014 30 cases of trains colliding cattle were registered.
Prevention means working with heads of local administrations, in the first place and villagers. It is necessary to explain the importance of observance of railway standards to them, believes Valko. "First of all, it should be borne in mind that a train is not a car, it cannot head in or instantly halt", he said.
In his turn, deputy chief of SCR Security service has drawn the journalists' attention to another wide-spread violation - stealing coloured metal from railroad hauls - this jeopardizes the railway traffic security. Stealing communication cables is also a huge problem for it causes malfunctioning of traffic lights, communication failure between stations - this means that full regulation of railway traffic becomes impossible.
