Armenia's Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan told journalists today that he would like to hear addressed assessments of Karabakh conflict from the OSCE Minsk Group.
According to him, co-chairs' activities led to ceasefire regime maintenance, however in his opinion the time and the conditions have changed. "We would like to hear addressed assessments and statements. The side which is violator should be given evaluation", he noted. The Minister also thinks that the time is ripe for setting up international investigation mechanisms, for revealing which side violates the ceasefire on the Line of Contact of Azerbaijani and Artsakh Armed Forces.
Ohanyan also noted that Armenian side controls the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and on the Line of Contact. In this context he noted that the adversary's activeness in two recent weeks has declined. "Recently there are less shots fired from weapons of heavy caliber, particularly from mortar launchers, which may be a result of various factors, including the domestic situation in Azerbaijan", the Minister said. At the same time he noted that prior or after the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents the situation will again escalate. "In such cases the situation not always but often has been tense. Whatever the situation is, the Armenian Armed Forces ensure the country's defensibility", the Minister noted.
To note, on October 27, in accordance with the arrangement reached with the authorities of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, the OSCE Mission conducted a monitoring of the Line of Contact between the armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan in the Martakert-Tartar road section, with the participation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The press office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Foreign Ministry reported that the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk led the monitoring.
During the monitoring, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmen and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office crossed the Line of Contact from the NKR side to Azerbaijan's territory. At the end of the monitoring shots fired from submachine guns from the Azerbaijani side were registered. On October 28 US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick told reporters in Baku that it is impossible to determine the direction from which fire was opened during OSCE monitoring. He also said that Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents expressed willingness to meet before end of year before the end of this year
