Azerbaijani delegation's attempts to speculate on Karabakh issue in the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe have failed once again.
Thus, during PACE summer session, despite the fact that there were no issues related to Karabakh problem on the agenda, member of Azerbaijani delegation Ganira Pashayeva addressed Secretary General of CoE Thorbjorn Jagland wondering why PACE resolution on Sargsang water reservoir is not being implemented when several months have already passed from its adoption.
Answering to the question Jagland stated that CoE does not have a mandate on settlement of the Karabakh problem, as OSCE Minsk Group exclusively addresses this issue. Co Chairs of OSCE MG do not want us to interfere into this process, we should respect this approach in order not to hinder peaceful process, he stated.
To note, PACE approved the resolution entitled "Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water" (rapporteur Milica Markovic, Bosnia and Herzegovina) on January 26. 98 MPs voted for, 71 MPs voted against and 40 MPs abstained from voting. In the report Armenian side is blamed for one-sided use of the waters of Sargsang.
