"Akos" reports that touching upon tomorrow's discussion of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide, Vice-President of European Parliament Antonio Tajani said: "We are not trying to punish today's Turkey, we are trying to punish Ottoman Turkey".
"Our attitude would have been the same if such a fate had befallen the Turkish nation and Turkey were crippled that way. Recognizing the Armenian Genocide would not cost Turkey its importance", said the European official.
To note, European Parliament recognized the Armenian Genocide in 1987. Tomorrow, on April 15, a resolution urging the EU member-states to recognize the Armenian Genocide will be proceeded to a vote. Ankara has already spoken of its negative attitude towards the initiative.
