A modern center for diagnostics and treatment of oncological diseases will open in Yerevan by late 2016, Deputy Health Minister of Armenia Vahan Poghosyan said in Parliament.
"The relevant medical equipment for the center has already been acquired and measures are being taken to open the center in the shortest time possible" he said.
To note, since 2009 Armenia has been taking serious steps to create an up-to-date cancer center. The center will be established in Yerevan at the initiative of the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Foundation and Global Medical Solutions (Belgium).
According to the statistics, as many as 2,700 people in Armenia annually become disabled due to cancer. As a result, economy suffers losses exceeding 75 mln AMD per annum. Nearly 32,000 oncological patients undergo follow-up care.
