Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) raised the issue of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in early 20th century at the PACE Winter Session.
In her speech, Hermine Naghdalyan, head of the Delegation, vice speaker of the Armenian parliament, said that after one hundred years from the date of that tragedy, Turkey still fails to admit its history and officially recognize the Genocide of Armenia. She recalled that in 1919, Turkey's military court convicted the organizers of the Armenian Genocide sentencing them to death. "All those who think the Genocide of Armenians is the problem of Armenians only are mistaken. Any crime against humanity has no period of limitation and applies to everyone," she said.
Republican parliamentarian Naira Karapetyan, in turn, voiced Turkey's intention to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli on April 24 2015 saying that country has never before celebrated that anniversary on April 24. This time, Turkey announced festivities on this very date to overshadow the events timed to the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, as part of these events are scheduled on April 24 2015.
