There are still corruption elements in the education system, Armenian Minister of Armen Ashotyan said at a press conference on May 25. He added that it is impossible to resolve that problem promptly.
Meanwhile, several successful programs were implemented in the education field over the last year. The National Songs and Dances subject has been included in the curriculum of 13 schools. The results of this pilot program were positive and the subject will be introduced in 100 more schools on 1 September 2015.
In the new school-year, the first-formers in Vayots Dzor marz will be provided with tablets.
Among the positive changes, Ashotyan pointed out the opening of the Yerevan branch of the Moscow State University. The minister thinks that this will not only deepen the Armenian-Russian humanitarian ties but will also enhance the competition among the local universities and will give a fresh impetus to introduction of advanced educational programs.
Ashotyan also touched on the tuition fees of the students, whose parents are former employees at Nairit Plant. To recall, the Plant has been idle since April 2010. As many as 1,700 employees of Nairit were fired on 6 Feb 2015. Given the current situation, the children of the former Nairit employees are given an opportunity to pay the tuition fees with delay.
