The Georgian Government is negotiating with Gazprom to increase the gas transit from Russia to Armenia, says Kakha Kaladze, Minster of Energy, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, Black Sea Press reports.
Georgia has bought no Russian gas since 2007. Its key gas supplier is Azerbaijan. But Georgia receives 10% of the total Russian gas transit to Armenia. "In Brussels we raised the issue of growth of gas supplies to Armenia because we would like the gas pipeline to operate at full capacity so that we could get more gas," he says.
Georgia is also negotiating with Iran. "Our key gas supplier is Azerbaijan, but like any other country, we would like to diversify the energy sources," he says.
Kaladze met Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexey Miller in Brussels in late September. The sides discussed the Russian natural gas supply to Georgia, as well as the gas transit to the third countries, Gazprom says.
