In spring 2017 Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will be suspended for life extension repair.
According to Armenia's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan, as a result of the repair, the life of the plant will be extended till 2027.
"The plant will be idle for some six months. The program will be carried out due to a $270mln loan and a $30mln grant to be provided by Russia. The loan will be given for 10 years at 3% a year. The preparatory work will be started this year," Zakharyan said.
Armenian NPP was built in 1980 and now has one operating WWER-440 reactor. The plant generates almost 45% of all electric power in Armenia.
