On April 22 in his speech at the global forum "Against Genocide Crimes" professor Roger Smith, the co-founder and ex-president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, said, "Genocide" and "negation" are twins, yet it is surprising that 100 years later Turkey has not changed its denial policy".
He has said that Turkey spends millions of dollars to maintain its denial policy and makes several countries deny the truth. "Turkey does not just deny the Genocide, it accuses the Armenians for the crime. It claims that both nations suffered the pain, places genocide and war at the same level, yet everyone knows it is not so", he said.
According to him, Turkey has not changed its arguments, yet it keeps changing the tactics. "The Turkish side threatens to sabotage conferences, lodge complaints and so on, however, such a policy cannot last long", he believes.
In his turn, Head of Chair on philosophy at Worcester State University Henry Henry C. Theriault believes 2015 to be a critical stage in the process of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. "This is the beginning of the final stage of the issue settlement. The Turkish government invests a lot of money into the denial campaign; however, years of denial have drawn the world's interest to the issue. Many countries have changed their attitude and perception", he said. The expert believes that the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations should be based on reparation process which might be commenced this year.
