On October 7, 10 rail cars got off the rails in Gegharkunik province in Shorzha-Vardenis section. The train was carrying gold ore. No casualties have been reported.
The press service of the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC reports that the representatives of the SCR management led by CEO Viktor Rebets were on the scene of the incident all night long. The company was taking measures to liquidate the derailment consequences. The reasons of the derailment are still being found out by a special commission, which will publish its conclusions later.
SCR CJSC is a 100% subsidiary of the Russian Railway OJSC and the concessional manager of Armenian Railway CJSC under the 13 Feb 2008 concession agreement. The agreement was signed for 30 years but may be prolonged for 10 more years.
