Family of the National Hero of Armenia and Artsakh Hero Monte Melkonyan has addressed a letter to President Serzh Sargysan wherein it calls for release of Alek Yenigomshyan, a member of the opposition initiative Founding Parliament.
In the letter, Monte Melkonyan's family members recall Alek Yenigomshyan's services to the country and the people of Armenia, his patriotic activity and the disability caused in the fight for the motherland, and ask his immediate release from police custody.
The letter was signed by Maile Melkonyan, Margar Melkonyan, Marisa Melkonyan, Seda Gpranyan- Melkonyan, Suzie Mahserejyan-Melkonyan.
To recall, Alek Yenigomshyan was detained by the National Security Service of Armenia on July 27 under the criminal case on the seizure of the Police Patrol Service Regiment in Yerevan on suspicion of supporting the armed group (Article 38-219 part 3 point 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia).
"The detainee used the service of the lawyer he chose personally. Considering his disability and to let him exercise his rights, a visual impairment specialist has been invited," the National Security Service reported earlier.
Meantime, Yenigomshyan's lawyer, Nikolay Baghdasaryan, told ArmInfo his client's rights are infringed in custody, since he is disabled and cannot even eat without help. He needed a specialized cell or at least the assistance of the law-enforcers. Meantime, the lawyer said, Yenigomshyan is in an ordinary cell and receives no assistance he needs, which is violation of international norms and can be qualified as torture. Nevertheless, the lawyer said, his client's spirit in not broken.
