With every year, the flow of travelers from Armenia to Greece is growing along with the number of visa requests by the citizens of Armenia. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Armenia H.E. Mr. Ioannis Taghis made such statement at an event entitled "Window to Greece" in Yerevan. The event looked to present the history and the culture of Greece to the Armenian people and to boost the bilateral tourism, the ambassador said.
In his words, Greece is becoming more and more attractive to foreign travelers and the country's economy directly depends on the investments in the tourism sector. The year 2016 was unprecedented in terms of incomes from tourism and opening of new jobs, the ambassador said.
Ioannis Taghis said Armenia has also become more popular among Greek travelers as one of the world's most ancient Christian countries. The diplomat believes that the ancient churches in Armenia may become tourist attractions. Considering that the two peoples have much in common, it will be very interesting for the Greek people to visit the Armenians sights and communicate with Armenians, Ambassador Taghis said.
Mekhak Apresyan, the head of the Tourism Department, Economy Ministry of Armenia, said the cooperation of Armenia and Greece in the field of tourism is developing. He pointed at some positive dynamics in the number of visitors from Greece, though the number is not big generally. Apresyan welcomed the event calling it important for boosting tourism and marketing policy.
