Looking for the new realistic ways of the Karabakh conflict settlement is not only a task of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen, but also of the authorities and experts of Armenia, Karabakh and Azerbaijan, chairman of the NKR Public Council for Foreign Policy and Security, Masis Mailyan, told Arminfo correspondent when commenting on activeness of the adversary in January 2015 that has led to the new victims.
According to operative data of the NKR Defense Army, Azerbaijan breached the ceasefire on the Line of Contact with Karabakh Armed Forces over 220 times overnight. They fired over 2,000 shots from weapons of various calibers at the Armenian positions. In addition, the enemy made 8 attempted raids without success and was thrown back suffering losses. Unfortunately, Armenian soldier Suren Pilosyan (1995) died of gunshot wound, as the Azerbaijani armed forces breached ceasefire.
"Naturally, the fundamental peace treaty for the Karabakh conflict settlement is very much important for the countries of the region as well as the international actors. Nevertheless, it is also important to find a formula for preserving stability before signing of such a treaty. I should emphasize that the problem of senseless death of servicemen of all the parties to the conflict against the background of tension in the Karabakh conflict zone, coming from the last year, and backed by the Russia-the West confrontation, has again become relevant", - he said.
Mailyan recalled that since 1994 the intermediaries have voiced numerous proposals for the Karabakh conflict settlement, but none of them was accepted by all the three parties to the conflict. He thinks that the main reasons of impossibility of reaching compromise is the fact that the elites and communities of the parties to the conflict are not ready to the peace, and there is no confidence between them.
"In this context, against the background of impossibility of reaching compromise, the parties to the Karabakh conflict should at least refuse killing each other, and use the ways for settlement of the ethnic and political conflicts, accepted in the civilized world. For instance, the unsettled conflicts in the Cyprus and Northern Ireland, the parties to which have found the ways of peaceful co-existence though not abandoning their political preferences",- the expert concluded.
Several servicemen of the armed forces of Armenia and the NKR died for the first 20 days of 2015, as a result of the ceasefire regime breaking by Azerbaijani servicemen. According to the non-official data, the adversary has even more losses than the Armenian parties. There is no official information about the victims of the ceasefire regime breaking.
