Armenia's rank in Global Peace Index-2016 has deteriorated.
According to the report compared to previous year Armenia deteriorated by its indicators by 19 points and is 110th from overall 163 in the list. According to the authors Armenia has yielded only to Georgia in the region, which took the 85th position. Azerbaijan was 134th, Turkey- 145th and Iran-133rd.
The authors of the GDI think that there are only 10 countries, which are completely free from any conflicts both domestic and external ones. These countries are: Botswana, Chili, Costa Rica, Japan, Mauritius, Panama, Qatar, Switzerland, Uruguay and Vietnam. Island was named the most peaceful country in the world followed by Denmark, Austria, New Zealand and Portugal.
According to the report the level of safety is dropping worldwide and the majority of the global deterioration is due to the developments in the Middle East. The index shows that 81 countries became more peaceful in the past year, while the situation deteriorated in 79. Political instability grew in almost 40 countries including in Brazil, which has dropped out of the list of countries free from conflicts.
The peacefulness of the countries is being assessed by 22 indicators, including the number of domestic and external wars, relations with neighboring countries, number of crimes, political instability, import and export of weapons etc.
