ArmInfo. No one can guarantee that there will be no new war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. This cannot be guaranteed. Artsakh Foreign Minister David Babayan stated this on January 19 during a press conference in Stepanakert when asked to assess the threats of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to unleash a third war. But, the chief diplomat of Artsakh continued, there is a possibility of a war, but in this context, it is very small.
"Why? Firstly, an official, large-scale attack on Armenia, I do not mean various kinds of provocations organized by the Azerbaijani side on the border, will actually mean an attack on the CSTO, and cannot go unnoticed. We saw the latest events in Kazakhstan, and the first kind of reaction of this kind from the CSTO. That is, an attack on Armenia would mean an attack on the CSTO, at least on Russia. This is about Armenia, especially if there is also support from Turkey. As for Artsakh, as you know, peace and stability are maintained here, including by the Russian peacekeeping contingent. That is, an attack on Artsakh automatically means an attack on the Russian peacekeeping contingent, and again, on Russia. In this context, it will already be another war", the NKR Foreign Minister said, once again emphasizing that this will no longer be a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan and Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
The diplomat believes that Azerbaijan is unlikely to understand this. Based on the abovementioned, according to Babayan, at this stage, the start of large-scale hostilities is unlikely.
At the same time, the head of the NKR Foreign Ministry is convinced that if the Islamists and pan-Turkists achieved their goals in Kazakhstan, then the probability of starting a quarter war would be one hundred percent. "And now this probability is very small", he summed up.
