ArmInfo. The Council of Elders of Yerevan has initiated an extraordinary meeting to discuss the issue of increasing the salaries of employees of the Yerevan Municipality, Mayor Hayk Marutyan reported on his Facebook page.
Marutyan noted that on the initiative of a group of members of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, an extraordinary meeting will be convened this week, at which the issue of increasing the salaries of about 2 thousand employees of the Municipality will be discussed. From a systemic point of view, as the head of the Yerevan mayor's office pointed out, this will allow attracting qualified personnel to serve the city and its residents. But the law requires an increase in the mayor's salary in order to increase the salaries of other employees.
"I have already had the opportunity to express my position on this matter. A person who has taken a public position as a result of the revolution should not strive to increase his salary. Therefore, I am categorically against the increase in salary, so I will not participate in the vote. And if the decision is made by voting Council of Elders, I will refuse this increase and will continue to receive the same salary that I received for these 2.5 years, that is, 415,000 drams. The additional amount will be directed to charity, "Hayk Marutyan wrote.
