ArmInfo. At a meeting on June 21, the Central Election Commission of Armenia satisfied the petition of the Prosecutor General's Office to initiate criminal proceedings against the director of the Izmirlian Medical Center, a member of the Armenia bloc Armen Charchyan for forcing to vote in the early parliamentary elections.
The press service of the RA General Prosecutor's Office recalled that a criminal case was initiated against Charchyan under paragraph 2 of part 4 of article 154.2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (giving a bribe to voters, receiving a bribe, violating the ban on charity during elections, or obstructing the free expression of the voter's will) on 18 June. On the same day, he was detained, but the court later refused to arrest him. On Sunday morning, the head of the Medical Center was released from custody.
It is also stated that the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia had previously applied to the CEC, since Charchyan was a candidate for lawmaker from the Armenia bloc. Applications for obtaining consent to initiate criminal proceedings were submitted to the Central Election Commission.
"At the meeting on June 21, the RA CEC satisfied the request of the Republican Prosecutor General's Office to initiate criminal prosecution against Charchyan. The Commission sent the relevant decisions to the investigative body to carry out the necessary judicial procedural actions. The preliminary investigation of the case continues," the statement of the RA General Prosecutor's Office says. As ArmInfo previously reported, the RA CEC gave the go-ahead for criminal prosecution and imprisonment of a candidate for lawmaker from the "I Have Honor" bloc.
