ArmInfo.Over 300 teachers are in self-isolation due to COVID-19. Head of the Department of Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, epidemiologist Lusine Paronyan said this at a press conference on September 25.
Paronyan recalled that mass testing of teachers and other school employees for coronavirus started in Armenia on Sep.7 to Sep.8. According to her, this process is planned to be completed in the first decade of October. At the moment, over 300 teachers were diagnosed with the coronavirus, which is 1.5% of the total number of teachers tested.
Regarding the restrictions in force in schools, Paronyan noted that these measures are justified, since they are aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19. As for the recent increase in the number of new cases in the republic as a whole, it was emphasized that this is not related to the resumption of school hours from September 15. Paronyan also drew attention to the fact that in the age group of 6-17 years, there was no increase in cases of coronavirus in the second half of September.
"The growth of new cases of coronavirus was forecasted taking into account the season of influenza and SARS, as well as in connection with the relaxation of restrictive measures, including in terms of holding public events," the expert noted. As an example, she cited a recent case when, due to one virus carrier, everyone who was traveling with him in a minibus on an excursion to Tatev became infected with coronavirus. After the excursion, this citizen went to a memorial service, where he also infected several of those present.
In total, 48643 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the republic, 43401 people recovered, 947 died. At the moment, 4002 patients are receiving actual treatment.
