ArmInfo Armenia has a real chance to radically change the situation with COVID-19. On August 12, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a government meeting.
However, according to him, if the situation is not assessed correctly , there may be a roll back to the July indicators. The Prime Minister recalled that the second wave of the pandemic began in many countries of the world. Earlier, at the highest level, it was said about overcoming it, but today a number of states of the world are returning to quarantine measures. Today in Armenia there are 800 deaths from coronavirus and 244 cases for other reasons, and there are all the prerequisites for drastically changing the situation by autumn. But this will happen only if it is possible to correctly implement the previously approved strategy to overcome the pandemic, the essence of which boils down to the need to live in conditions of coronavirus.
Nikol Pashinyan recalled that in the first two months after the detection of the disease in the country, when severe restrictive measures were introduced, the deepening of social and economic problems was recorded. In April alone, a reduction of 50 thousand jobs was noted. Not the last role in the deepening of the crisis was played by the failure of citizens to comply with anti-epidemic rules. This happened especially often at the local level - in courtyards, neighborhoods. Thus, on the leading front, the norms were maintained, and in the rear, they were ignored. And it was then, the prime minister continued, that the government came to the conclusion that it was impossible to overcome the pandemic without sharing responsibility with citizens. In turn, in April-May, the country's law enforcement agencies did not show due rigidity in relation to violators of discipline. As a result of numerous discussions, the need to inform citizens emerged, and the government of the country guaranteed them the necessary medical care. In the early stages, there was even a situation in which patients received medical assistance on benches in parks. Today we managed to increase the capacity of the health care system, which has been significantly strengthened, equipped with modern equipment and inventory, and is capable of receiving up to 1,000 patients daily. This is also evidenced by the number of recovered people - 33,492 people, some of whom had asymptomatic signs of morbidity. But a significant part went through a difficult stage of recovery. "We have got a real chance to change the situation by autumn," the head of the Armenian government repeated, adding that the next extension of the state of emergency should serve this. At the same time, he noted, the prolongation of the regime will be accompanied by the removal of many restrictions.
