ArmInfo. The Armenian Embassy in Beirut is in constant contact with the Armenian peacekeepers carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. Press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan announced this on her Facebook page.
"Armenian Ambassador Vahagn Atabekyan contacted them this morning. As the Ambassador said, the peacekeepers are carrying out a mission on the southern borders of Lebanon, which are deployed at a fairly large distance from the incident site. Nothing threatens the peacekeepers' lives, and they continue to serve in a natural way," noted Naghdalyan.
It should be noted that the Armenian peacekeeping contingent has been carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon since November 2014 as part of the UNIFIL (The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) international mission. The peacekeeping unit of the Armenian Armed Forces ensures the security of the military town of Sham. At the moment, one platoon of the Armenian Armed Forces is taking part in the peacekeeping operation in Lebanon. UN forces have been operating in Lebanon since 1978. The UN Security Council regularly renews their mandate.
