ArmInfo. Today, the "In the Name of the Republic" political initiative held a rally at the Presidential Administration. Members of the initiative urge Armenian President Armen Sarkissian to nominate one of the three judges of the Constitutional Court.
As the ArmInfo correspondent reports from the scene, the members of the initiative submitted a petition to the presidential administration with this call.
It should be noted that this initiative is led by independent MP Arman Babajanyan. In an interview with reporters, he said that as of today the president has responsibilities; Sarkissian through his actions should contribute to the reform of the judicial system of Armenia. The MP noted that the state had a huge chance to change the judicial system in the country, and if the President does not use it, it will be a huge loss.
<I voted for judge of the Constitutional Court Vahe Grigoryan and I want the latter to attend the sessions of the Constitutional Court. We are sure that only such a politician as you is aware of the full degree of responsibility in this matter>, Babajanyan emphasized.
It should be noted that in June the parliament adopted amendments to the Constitution, according to which the powers of three judges were terminated, the term of office in this position was 12 or more years. These judges were Feliks Tokhyan, Alvina Gyulumyan and Hrant Nazaryan. In turn, head of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, lost his post of CC's President. According to the Constitution, the President, then the government and, finally, the General Meeting of Judges should nominate one candidate for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court. The full formation of the composition of the CC should occur within two months.
