ArmInfo. Germany assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As ArmInfo was informed in the press service of the German Embassy in the Republic of Armenia, one of the key priorities of the German Presidency in the EU Council over the next 6 months will be the combating the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences for health, economy and society. In addition, the German Presidency will also focus on digitalization, climate protection, social balance and a common security policy.

To recall, Germany assumes the Presidency of the EU Council for the 13th time. The last time the Federal Government chaired the council in the first half of 2007. The Council of the European Union, also known as the Council of Ministers, discusses legislation with the European Parliament and coordinates the policies of 27 countries. On July 1, 2020, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (Croatia) will pass from Croatia to Germany (until the end of 2020). On January 1, 2021, the Federal Government will be replaced by Portugal. The Council of the European Union should not be confused with the European Council. The European Council sets EU common political goals and priorities.
