ArmInfo. On May 25, the Cassation Court of Armenia acquitted Masis Ayvazyan, who was convicted in the March 1 case. Thus, Ayvazyan was found not guilty of the act incriminated to him.
To recall, the corresponding cassation appeal was earlier filed by Prosecutor General of Armenia Arthur Davtyan. Ayvazyan was convicted in 2008 under part 1 of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code for participating in protests on March 1, and sentenced to conditional imprisonment for 1 year and 6 months. Meanwhile, during the checks it turned out that the constitutional and conventional rights of the accused to a fair trial were violated.
In October 2018, by the decision of the European Court of Human Rights, the Government of Armenia, in the framework of the case on March 1, 2008, undertook to allocate compensation in the amount of 4,500 euros to Masis Ayvazyan. According to the decision of the European Court of Human Rights, parts 1 and 3 of Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights have been violated against Masis Ayvazyan. It was also noted that the deprivation of liberty of Masis Ayvazyan was unreasonable and did not have a proper base.
