The team composed of Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University and Fime Tech company today won the Minesweeper Robots contest. The contest is held by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) of Armenia in cooperation with UCom. As the press-service of UCom informed Arminfo, the company has awarded the winners. The winner team has been awarded 600,000 AMD. Gyumri's Android team came second, receiving an award in the amount of 400,000 AMD. Digital Cloud team also from Gyumri came third, being awarded 260,000 AMD. Minesweepers team representing Vanadzor received encouraging award in the amount of 100,000 AMD.
"Such contests not only encourage youth to work on robot creation but are very timely, as by solving practical tasks representatives of youth receive the opportunity to be hired by the military-industrial enterprises in Armenia", Executive Director of UITE Karen Vardanyan stated.
"I am sure that our youth has great potential and can achieve success in this industry. The industry of information technologies develops with great speed and dynamics and plays significant role in solving many basic issues in the world. I hope that solutions presented here will be used in future," said UCom CEO Hayk Yesayan.
This year 11 teams from Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Vedi, Sisian, Goris, Talin and Artsakh took part in the contest. Nine of the teams included only pupils, two of them being comprised of students.
UITE and Ucom also hold Air Drone contest within ArmRobotics development program, the final stage of which will take place in May.
To note, UCom Telecommunications started to provide Internet, IP television and landline digital telephony services through a single broadband connection since 2009. As of June 2015, the company has more than 100,000 subscribers and 800 employees. In 2015 UCom purchased 100% of shares of Orange Armenia and started providing mobile services.
To recall, UITE was established in 2000 and united a number of companies with the aim to promote their economic interests and encourage IT field development. "Migma", "Algorithm", "Link", "ArmSoft", "Arminco" and "Sedit" are the co-founders of UITE.
