The health assessment of the police officers who were hospitalized during the Thursday clashes with protesters in Gyumri is good, Anahit Aytayan, Spokesperson of the Health Ministry of Armenia, told ArmInfo.
Two of the injured officers were taken to the Gyumri Medial Center with brain confusion. The third officer with head trauma underwent surgery at the Yerevan Hosptial "Grigor Lusavorich." All the three officers feel better.
A family murder in Gyumri on 12 January prompted large-scale protests. Tensions escalated when Armenia's Prosecutor General, Gevorg Kostanyan, said that serviceman Valeriy Permyakov, who is accused of killing 6 and wounding one in Gyumri, cannot be handed to the Armenian law-enforcement in line with the RF legislation. Later, under public pressure, Kostanyan promised to discuss the problem with his Russian counterpart and achieve Permyakov's prosecution in Armenia. Meanwhile, 14 people were hospitalized with injuries during clashes of protesters and Police, with nearly 60 people being detained.
