Expert: West is not Armenia's future

  • Thursday, January 17, 14:49

The West is not Armenia's future, political expert Sergey Shakaryants told journalists on Thursday.

He said that quite recently US Ambassador John Heffern dared to interfere in Armenia's internal policy by saying openly that the country must look up to the West.

"But must we? Look at Greece and Cyprus. They are suffering from poverty and chaos," the expert said.

Shakaryants believes that after the Feb 18 presidential elections Armenia will turn from a subject of international policy into its object.

Regarding the Jan 28 meeting of the OSCE MG co-chairs and the Armenian and Azeri FMs, Shakaryants said that he does not expect anything new from it as there are no new proposals on the negotiating table.
