Head of the Armenian National Congress party faction Levon Zurabyan met with PACE Monitoring Committee Co-Rapporteur on Armenia Axel Fischer on June 25 and informed the European official of the latest heavy-handed police response to journalists and peaceful protesters in Yerevan.
According to ANC's statement, Zurabyan briefed Fischer on the democracy and human rights situation in Armenia, along with "destruction of the election system, the real goals of the so-called Constitution Reform, total control over television and censorship by he authorities, as well as the problem with political prisoners."
To note, the sit-in against the electricity price hike continues in Yerevan for the 6th day already. On June 23 in the morning, the Police used water cannons to disperse the sit-in. 25 people were injured. Later, on June 23 in the evening the people gathered in Baghramayan Ave again. Opposition parliamentarians also went to Baghramyan Ave.
Various international organizations and some foreign diplomatic missions in Armenia have slammed the police's actions against the peaceful demonstrators and journalists. They demanded immediate inquiry intro the cases of violence.
