One should not draw any parallels between different conflicts; each conflict is unique and has its own genesis, reasons and settlement methods. The Karabakh conflict is not an exception, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told journalists when commenting on the statement of Nikolay Ryzhkov, member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, co-chair of the Russian-Armenian Interparliamentary Commission for Cooperation.
To recall, during his visit to Yerevan, Ryzhkov was asked why Crimea has joined the Eurasian Economic Union together with Russia and Nagorno-Krabakh has no right to become an EAEU member together with Armenia. "First of all, it is necessary to determine the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Crimea is an ancestral Russian territory, which was given to Ukraine by Khrushchyov's decision but now it has returned to Motherland", replied Ryzhkov.
When commenting on this statement, Sharmazanov stressed, "If we speak of ancestral territories, I should say that Armenia was the place of the junction of the Arax and Kura Rivers, the annals prove that. Anyone having a slight idea of Armenia's history knows that Artsakh is Armenia's ancestral territory. These are not my words. Greek and Roman historians said that as early as 2,000 years ago".
