David Zurabishivili, a representative of the Republican Party of Georgia does not think that the Abkhaizan railway will be reactivated any time soon. The Georgian politician made such statement at a news conference on June 21 in Tbilisi in response to ArmInfo's question about reactivation of the railway communication between Russian and Armenia via Abkhazia.
"I think it is impossible. You know, the problem is not only with the reactivation of the railway. He Abkhazian side demands us to recognize their borders. There are problems with visas, passports, and tickets. As long the problem between Abkhaiza and Georgia remains unresolved, no progress is possible," the Georgian politician said.
In his words, the talks on the given issues are mostly informal and the sides need to find common ground for a dialogue on the example of the Georgian-Ossetian dialogue.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Abkhazia Artur Mikvabia said Abkhazia seeks to restore the railway service from Russia to Georgia and Armenia via the territory of Abkhazia. "We are interested in that project. I think the project is profitable from the economic viewpoint. However, Georgia says that it will conclude no agreement with us, because it thinks that we should be a part of Georgia. So, this is a political problem. But I think that the problem should be considered from the viewpoint of economy and common sense," he said.
