US Embassy to Armenia has disseminated a statement related to the ongoing situation in Yerevan.
"We welcome the Armenian Ombudsman's statement yesterday regarding the ongoing situation in Erebuni, in which he says he is closely monitoring the situation and pledges action if laws are broken. We applaud and echo his call for continued restraint on all sides of the stand-off. With a particular note of the events of July 26-27, we urge all sides to show maximum restraint, act within the confines of the law, and demonstrate a commitment to the peaceful resolution of the standoff. We are especially concerned by media reports today that medical personnel have been detained in the Erebuni Police building. Such actions are unacceptable, and if true, we call for the immediate and safe release of these individuals", the statement reads.
Yesterday Police of Armenia dispersed protest of the supporters of Daredevils of Sasoun group, as a result of which 64 citizens were detained. 63 were set free in the morning; charge was pressed against one detainee for weapons bearing. Besides, firefight occurred overnight between the armed group and the police. As a result of the firefight 5 people were injured, one policemen and 4 members of the group, Pavel Manukyan and his son Aram among them, who were taken to hospitals and operated. There are still two injured in the seized building. Later Police of Armenia has informed that the members of the armed group have taken hostages 4 medical workers of the Ambulance service, who arrived at the territory to provide medical care to the injured. Daredevils of Sasoun group has made a statement noting that Healthcare Minister Armen Muradyan and surgeons should arrive on the territory of the building and operate the injured only in this case they are ready to release the group of medical workers.
