A monument dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War has been unveiled in Victory Park in Yerevan.
The press office of the Russian Embassy in Armenia has told ArmInfo that Russian Ambassador Ivan Volynkin delivered a welcome speech.
The Russian diplomat said that the Armenian people made a big contribution to the fight against nazi Germany and its allies. From the very first days of the war dozens of thousands of Armenian volunteers joined the Red Army. Over 600,000 Armenians were off at the front and half of them did not return from the battlefield.
Belarusian Ambassador to Armenia Igor Nazaruk, veterans, representatives of the Armenian Defense Ministry, Head of the Russian Center of Science and Culture Mark Kalinin were also present at the event.
