On May 25 Deputy minister of Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations Vache Terteryan has said at National Assembly that Stepanavan Airport will be ready for operation by the end of 2015.
According to him, airports in Stepanavan and Kapan are being renovated in cooperation with Russian partners within the establishment of the Armenian-Russian Humanitarian Center. The Center will be of international importance for quick response to emergency situations. Both airports are suitable for general aviation, too. Stepanavan Airport has been idle since 2006. After joint maneuvers in 2012 Armenia's Emergency Situations Minister Armen Yeritsyan, together with Chief Military Expert of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia Pavel Plat, inspected the airport from a helicopter. As a result, he decided to repair it and to use it as a humanitarian cargo terminal.
