On May 16, 110 museums in Armenia will open to visitors as part of the traditional campaign Museum Night, Deputy Minister of Culture Arev Samuelyan said in the Government, Thursday.
On sidelines of the campaign, concerts, theatrical performances, lecture, exhibitions and others events will be held. Museum Night will start in the evening and continue till the midnight. The entrance will be free. This unusual campaign attracts more and more visitors. In 2011, 107,000 people visited museums, in 2012 - 135,000 peoples and in 2013 more than 169,000 people.
The campaign was first held in Berlin in 1997. In eight years, it has become an all-European campaign at the initiative of France and with the support of the Council of Europe and the International Council of Museums. The first museum in Armenia to join the campaign was Sergey Paradjanov Museum (2003).
