Qatar Airways will launch flights to Yerevan from Doha on May 15, CEO of Qatar Airways Akbar Al Baker said in Los Angeles.
In his words, Airbus A320 will fly to Yerevan 4 times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The airbus has 132 economy class seats and 12 business-class ones.
Earlier on December 25, Anna Chobanyan, the head of the Department for Civil Aviation Policy and Economic Regulations, Ministry of Economy, told ArmInfo the world's biggest airlines - Qatar Airways - will launch direct flights to Armenia in early 2016. She said negotiations with the airline are nearing competition, as the surveys of the Armenian market are due to over.
Earlier, two big companies - Czech Airlines and Polish LOT - returned to the Armenian market. Chobanyan said negations have been held with 30 big and low-cost air carriers for flights to Armenia. Negotiations are underway with the government of 26 countries for revision of the international agreements in the field of air communication. She explained that before the 'open skies' policy in the field of civil aviation, there were restrictions for both local and foreign companies. Now these restrictions will be lifted.
After the Government of Armenia approved the "open skies" policy on October 23 2013, big companies like Aegean Airways, Georgian Airways, Iraqi Airways, Al Naser, Mahan Air, Middle East Airways, S7 have entered the Armenian market.
