The Russian Federal Security Service's Frontier Department in Armenia functions normally, Sergey Grechin, Spokesman for the Frontier Department has told an ArmInfo correspondent.
"The Frontier Department functions normally. The situation on the border is stable. Whatever the situation, we are always ready to defend the state border of Armenia," Grechin says.
On November 24, a Turkish F-16 fighting falcon shot down a Russian Su-24 plane near the Syrian-Turkish border. The two pilots were able to parachute out of the plane before it crashed. One of them was killed while landing, the other one was rescued by the Syrian special forces and taken to the military hospital of the Russian base in Syria. One more Russian serviceman was killed in the course of the rescue operation. This incident has deteriorated the Russia-Turkey relations. According to the media reports, the security measures at the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia are being tightened and the unit is being put on alert in the light of possible provocations on the Armenian- Turkish border. However, this information has not been confirmed yet.
