While presenting the 2015 annual programme by State Committee For Protection Of Economic Competition at National Assembly, a number of issues considered by SCPEC were raised.
The Committee's press-office has reported to ArmInfo that one of the issues was the competition on sugar import and retail prices between Carrefour and Yerevan City supermarkets.
The Committee has turned to the Armenian representative office of Carrefour aiming at clarifying the reasons why they do not import sugar to Armenia, but sell it at lower prices in their Georgian branches. In response Carrefour representatives have said they have never had troubles with Yerevan City chain of supermarkets. "Our calculations have shown that while importing the prime cost will be higher than buying the product on the spot. That is why it is more profitable for the company to buy the product in Armenia and resell. Our company's price policy is independent", responded the company.
As for the low prices for sugar at Georgian Carrefour supermarkets, the Armenian representation said, "the quality differs - the quality of sugar sold in Armenia is higher than that sold in Georgia, that is why there are lower prices in Georgia".
